Shorouk Engineering is undertaking the establishment of the core database for South Sinai Governorate

In a collaborative effort between the Community Service and Environmental Development Unit at the Higher Institute of Engineering - Akhbar El-Shorouk Academy and the South Sinai Governorate, the Governor requested the Higher Institute of Engineering in Shorouk to commission Dr. Eman Metwally, a lecturer in the Architecture Department, to create a core database for the South Sinai Governorate. This initiative is part of the governorate's digital transformation strategy and aims to establish an urban observatory to monitor progress in achieving sustainable development across various sectors—economic, social, cultural, and urban—through urban indicators.

The project received full support from:

  • Lt. Gen. Dr. Ahmed Said Abdel Rahim, Chairman of the Academy
  • Prof. Dr. Joudeh Ghanem, Vice Chairman
  • Prof. Dr. Moataz Taleb, Dean of the Higher Institute of Engineering
  • Prof. Dr. Manal Yahya, Head of the Architecture Department
  • Dr. Eman Samir, Deputy Governor of South Sinai

The core database was successfully completed, including key indicators for the governorate and several cities, including Sharm El-Sheikh, Taba, Dahab, and Saint Catherine. The project also focused on preparing indicators for the upcoming COP 27 Climate Conference, particularly those related to tourism and environmental development. Additionally, maps for tourist areas in Sharm El-Sheikh and land use were created using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to support the city's tourism promotion, especially in relation to COP 27.

Lt. Gen. Khaled Fouda extended his gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Eman Metwally for her efforts in creating the core database for the urban observatory and the maps for Sharm El-Sheikh.
