Electrical Power and Machines Engineering Students Visit to the Zaafarana Wind Farm

The Electrical Power and Machines Engineering program at the Higher Institute of Engineering in Al-Shorouk organized a field trip to the wind power generation station in the Zaafarana region of the Red Sea Governorate on Saturday, October 28th, 2023, and November 7th, 2023. The trip included a mix of students from the program and department, along with the coordinator of the Electrical Power and Machines Engineering program, Dr. Abu Al-Futooh Abdel-Rahim, and a group of faculty and teaching assistants from the Electrical Power and Machines Engineering Department.

The program included:

• Technical Lecture: A comprehensive lecture on wind energy generation, the history of the Zaafarana station, and its future vision, delivered by Engineer Ahmed Azmy, an operations and maintenance engineer at the station.
• Mechanical Workshop Visit: A visit to the station's mechanical workshops to observe the various components of wind turbines up close during maintenance.
• Control Centre Visit: A visit to the main control and monitoring centre, which oversees 700 wind turbines, the total number of wind turbines at the Zaafarana station.
• Wind Turbine Visit: A field visit to one of the wind turbines to get a close-up view, including a look inside the turbine tower and a demonstration of changing the angle of the turbine blades.
